Microneedling + PRP

They say that beauty is only skin deep, but the truth is that beauty is affected by what’s underneath. When the building blocks of youth, healing, and anti-aging are not being produced naturally by the body, uneven skin tone and texture develops. Using the only FDA-approved microneedling device, the SkinPen, with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or Exosomes, we are able to trigger the natural production of collagen and elastin, the building blocks of healthy, youthful-looking skin. At Serenity Women’s Care, we offer microneedling and other skin care treatments to help you look your very best.

The Microneedling Consultation

A quick consultation is all that’s needed to schedule a treatment at Serenity Women’s Care. Venessa will ask some important questions to determine if you’re a good candidate for the therapy. She will also discuss your treatment options, contraindications, possible side effects and answer all of your questions. Depending on your specific skin concerns, Venessa will help you establish whether PRP or Exosomes are appropriate add-ons as well.

The Microneedling with PRP Procedure

During the procedure, microneedles create controlled skin injuries to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. These are natural and essential compounds for healing and strengthening the skin’s elasticity, but production of the compounds often decreases as we age. The small punctures combined with the power or PRP or Exosomes stimulate new growth to reduce wrinkles, minimize fine lines, hide scars and turn back the clock. The treatment also makes the skin more receptive to topical gels, creams and serums.

Microneedling Results and Follow-up Treatments

The results of microneedling are often dramatic, and many patients only need 3 treatments spaced between 6 and 8 weeks apart to achieve optimal results. If you’re treating deep acne scarring, you might need a more intensive therapeutic regimen of 6 to 8 treatments scheduled at 6-week intervals.

How Does Microneedling with PRP or Exosomes Work?

Microneedling is a nonsurgical technique that improves skin texture by applying topical serums, PRP (platelet-rich plasma), or Exosomes across damaged areas of the skin to treat imperfections such as wrinklesfine lines, scars, acne, stretch marks, age spots and hyperpigmentation. A hand-operated tool — the SkinPen™—creates tiny channels in the dermis to stimulate the skin’s natural healing ability. Topical application of PRP or Exosomes during this process stimulates new growth and skin elasticity.

This safe procedure uses the SkinPen™ with an attached sterile needle tip. The tip contains 12 microneedles that operate at high speed. The device is similar to a tattoo machine but with a higher comfort level.

Do I Need to Use PRP or Exosomes With My Microneedling Treatment?

You don’t need to use PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or Exosomes with microneedling as there are other options to achieve optimal results. The type of skin imperfections often determine the treatment, but these concerns will be discussed during your consultation. However, it should be mentioned that numerous studies have shown that PRP and Exosomes are more effective than other treatments.

Who is a Good Candidate for Microneedling Treatments?

The microneedling procedure is safe for all skin colors and types, and the therapy can treat sensitive areas under the eyes, around the neck and on the back of the hands. The best candidates are those who have minimal facial sagging.

Who Shouldn’t Get Microneedling?

People over the age of 80 should discuss any type of cosmetic procedure with our Nurse Practitioner, JeanAnn. The treatment is not recommended for people with the following conditions:

  • Those with active skin infections
  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Those with a history of developing keloid or hypertrophic scars
  • Those who heal poorly
  • People who have open wounds, cuts or abrasions in the area to be treated
  • Those who have used isotretinoin, or Accutane, within the last three months
  • People who had radiation treatments within the past year

What Areas Can Be Treated With Microneedling?

You can treat virtually any area of the face and body with this versatile method. We provide patients with microneedling on the face, neck, decolletage, belly area, hands, thighs, and more!

Does Microneedling Hurt? Is Pain Relief Available?

Most patients tolerate the procedure very well, although some treatment areas are more sensitive than others. The treatment most commonly feels like rubbing light sandpaper across the skin. The speed and efficiency of the SkinPen™ works on all areas, including the neck, face, back, arms, legs, abdomen and lower neckline.

Pain relief is available in the form of skin-numbing creams to be applied prior to treatment. You can also take over-the-counter pain and inflammation remedies in oral form, but you can’t use other types of skin products for the first 24 hours after treatment. Avoid direct sunlight, makeup, sunscreen, and alcohol-based products.

What Are the Potential Side Effects With a Microneedling Treatment?

The skin will develop a reddish color like a sunburn, and your skin will be very sensitive to chemicals and light. Microneedling has been around for years, and advances in minimally invasive therapies make the procedure safe and routine for most people. Bruising, swelling and small pustules commonly develop during the healing process. These will usually disappear within two or three days. Your skin will feel dry and tight to the touch, but you should avoid skin care products such as moisturizers and skin toners and topical products with hydroquinone and glycolic, TCA or salicylic acid. Itchiness is also a common symptom, but you should avoid scratching the area. Some inflammation is expected and necessary for faster healing and rejuvenation of the skin.
